Good Evening,

Whew, today was quite the day! Of course, any day beginning with an excellent message by Scott Brown on The Marriages of Our Sons & Daughters is bound to be at least slightly out of the ordinary! I was personally greatly blessed by his message as it both at reinforced positions and practices that I, and my family, already hold to, as well as providing great motivation to me to prepare and seek for this gift from God.

Shortly after the end of his message my brother, Ben, and I went with two friends of ours to move a beast of a piano downstairs. The same one, in fact, that we moved upstairs a few months ago, the steepness of the steps and the extreme weight of the piano made it a memorable experience to say the least! Then, late in the afternoon we went over to the Martin’s house for supper and fellowship and I ended up spending the great majority of the time outside playing volleyball. The strong breeze and cold temps combined with periods of heavy clouds and a few short showers made it all the more interesting. 🙂

I captured this shot, as the sun was setting, by using my external flash to balance the foreground and background brightness with both the camera and the flash set to manual. I rarely use manual on my flash, but, in this case, the frequent switching between sky and ground was playing havoc with the auto exposure so it was really the only option. The only other thing to required to get this shot was setting the camera’s AF to Servo as the subject was, obviously, moving rather a large amount! Minor selective saturation and contrast enhancements with a tiny bit of sharpening finished off this shot.

God Bless,
~Josiah

  1. I really like this photo, and the feeling of action that it captures with the ball slamming into the net.
