Good Evening,

After getting off work today I noticed the simply amazing cloud display and immediately started a search for a suitable subject and view to capture their beauty, alas, it was not to be, some of the coolest cloud formations I have ever seen eluded my poor attempts at chasing them down. I finally settled on this location and did my best to capture what I could of the amazing feel of the light and clouds.

I shot two pictures in landscape orientation, one above the other, and then stitched them in post. While I would not normally do this for a shot of this nature I was forced to by my lack of a super wide-angle lens as I had to be quite close to the building to cut out some distracting elements on both sides of the frame. To really capture the feel of the light it was also necessary to use a masked adjustment layer on the sky to pull it down enough to reveal more of the texture and more closely capture what my eyes saw. Some sharpening and a tiny boost in vibrance completed this image.

Enjoy!

  1. That is a really nice picture, Josiah! Great caption too. I wonder if it would have looked a little better if the right hand side of the church was not cut off.

  2. The sky is really amazing!
