Good Evening,

Here is a shot I took as I was walking from my office over to the warehouse this afternoon. I just couldn’t resist the awesome crack patterns so I stopped and fired a few frames with my work Rebel XT using the EF 28-105mm f3.5-5.6. This is straight up dark, drab, overcast evening light shot hand-held in P mode.

As you may have guessed I applied a pretty heavy curves layer to give this image the contrast it was lacking in camera. Actually, shots like this can be very nice for heavy edits, not that I really did much, because the flat light gives you a huge amount of detail in the shadows and highlights that you can then craft however you want in post. I had to crop this quite a bit since I took it so fast that I didn’t have the time to get this crack as dead center as I wanted. A round of sharpening completed the effect.

God Bless,
~Josiah

  1. Quite a fascinating shot, Josiah!

The crack looks similar to a aerial photo of some remote canyon in some far off dessert never before seen. 🙂
